Quilt Coat/Jacket Workshop with Lorena Uriarte

$275.00

Turn Your Quilt Into a Coat with Lorena Uriarte!

If you’ve got any quilts that no longer spark joy, turn them into a coat! In this workshop, you’ll learn how to transform your quilts into cosy, stylish coats using a pattern suitable for most sizes.

This is a hands on, two-day class on the 7 & 8 June, 2025 where you'll cut quilts and sew them into a wearable garment. You can use a quilt you’ve already made, pre-quilted fabric, or make quilted panels specifically for this purpose. It’s a wonderful opportunity to repurpose orphan blocks and unfinished projects.

We’ll cover a variety of pocket, button, collar, and hood options. You’ll also learn how different waddings, quilting styles, and linings affect the look and feel of your final quilted coat.

By the end of the workshop, students should have constructed a quilt coat, though some binding may need to be finished at home.

What you’ll need:

  • A quilt or quilted panels with at least 60” x 60” of useable quilted space
  • Your own pattern (recommended: the Tamarack Jacket by Grainline Studio, the Patchwork Chore Coat by Patchwork & Poodles, or the Elemental Coat by Crinkle Dreams—each available as a PDF)
  • A sewing machine capable of sewing thick seams, a walking foot or dual feed system is recommended.

Further requirements and considerations will be provided with the supplies list.

We are so looking forward to Lorena coming to teach with us.

Workshop will start at 10am and finish at approx 3.30pm, this is a two day class both Saturday 7th June and Sunday 8th June.

Morning & afternoon tea is provided, lunch can be bought from home or purchased from the many cafes in Mornington.
